Death Toll Rises To 143 In Kanpur Train Tragedy

143 people declared dead till now after Patna-Indore Express train gone out of control and ran off the track November 20th morning in Kanpur area of Uttar Pradesh. Dozens of passengers injured as 14 coaches of the train derailed. According to the officials, many of the passengers are still stuck.

The accident happened near Pukhrayan area in Kanpur Dehat district at around 3AM on November 20th morning. After it all happened, a team of doctors and senior railway officials reached the spot immediately. People were rescued and injured were sent to the nearby hospitals.

Rescue teams are working together in search of survivors in the accident. Officials said that two of the 14 coaches have been heavily damaged and most of the casualties that were reported are from these two coaches only.




“Anguished beyond words on the loss of lives due to the derailing of the Patna-Indore express. My thoughts are with the bereaved families,” tweeted PM Narendra Modi.

Army men, local police and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team are working together very hard with full men power at the accident site in hope to find any survivor. Wreckage is also being removed to get the track fixed and ready. It’s the second worst accident in Indian railways history, taking lives of 143 people and still counting.

Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu has ordered an investigation to find out the reason behind the accident. The investigation is going on. According to some media reports and on spot officials, it has been expected that the accident was caused due to some fault in railway track.
