Sony α99 II A-Mount Camera With 4K Video Support Launched

Sony India has launched its flagship SLT camera called “α99 II.” It’s a successor to α99 and comes with Sony’s latest digital imaging technology. The camera is now available in India at a price of Rs.2,49,990 at select authorized Sony retailers, Alpha flagship stores and Electronic & Digital Imaging stores across the country. The camera was first revealed in September during Photokina in Germany.

It comes with back-illuminated full frame 44.4MP 5 Exmor R CMOS sensor benefits from a gapless-on-chip design and allows for fast readout of large volumes of data as well as being extremely efficient in its light gathering ability. Thanks to feedback from professionals, the Sony a99 II is also eight percent smaller than its predecessor and features improved grip, magnesium alloy body, dual SD card slots, as well as dust and moisture resistance.

The a99 II has been designed without an optical low-pass filter to allow the finest natural details and textures to be captured with depth and the photographer can select compressed or uncompressed RAW files, as required. The camera also sports 3-inch tiltable display

The Sony a99 II happens to be Sony’s first full-frame camera to sport the 4D Focus system which features 79 autofocus points on the dedicated PDAF sensor, which when combined with the 399 on-sensor autofocus points, gives you 79 hybrid cross-autofocus points.

The Bionz X image processor on board the Sony a99 II enables continuous shooting upto 12fps. It is capable of recording high quality footage at 100Mbps for 4K recording. A new ‘Slow and Quick’ mode supports both slow motion and quick motion. Frame rates form 1fps to 120fps can be selected in 8 steps for upto 60x quick motion and 5X slow motion recording.
