Telstra announces LTE mobile network capable to provide speed up to 1Gbps to its users in Australia, highest ever in the country. The speed announced by Telstra is 10 times what NBN is offering with its top home broadband packages. According to the company, it will provide 1Gbps download speeds and 150Mbps upload speeds in the country.

The telecommunications carrier Telstra has partnered with Netgear, chip maker Qualcomm, and Ericsson to bring a mobile router that supports the new high speed LTE network. The company announced the Netgear Nighthawk M1 Mobile Router MR1100 at the Gigabit LTE event held in Sydney. The 1Gbps mobile network will be available in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. However, the company has promised to expand its high speed network to Adelaide and Perth later this year.

Talking about the the router, it will operate on Telstra’s Gigabit LTE network and features 4x carrier aggregation, 4×4 MIMO (multiple input multiple output), and 256-QAM boosting Wi-Fi. The router can connect up to 20 WiFi enabled devices at one time and utilizes 60MHz of spectrum with four band carrier aggregation. In terms of connectivity, it comes with one Ethernet port and two USB ports and packs a 5040mAh battery capable of delivering 24 hours of usage time.

It bears a price tag of AU$360 and will be available starting late February on Telstra’s stores across the country. Customers can also buy it through different online retailers.

“The Gigabit network itself will be rolled out initially in the CBDs, and it will gradually expand from there, but that will occur over time,” said Channa Seneviratne, Telstra’s Director of Wireless Engineering.
