According to Union IT and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, BSNL has initiated the rollout of its 4G network, beginning with 200 sites. Following a three-month trial period, BSNL plans to launch an average of 200 sites per day.

The minister also mentioned that BSNL’s 4G network will be upgraded to 5G by November-December. Vaishnaw stated that the deployment of the 4G-5G telecom stack developed in India has commenced with BSNL.

Currently, installations have been completed between Chandigarh and Dehradun for 200 sites, and these sites are expected to go live within the next two weeks at the latest.

BSNL has entered into an advance purchase agreement with Tata Consultancy Services and ITI Limited for the deployment of a 4G network. The order, valued at over Rs. 19,000 crore, encompasses the establishment of more than 1.23 lakh sites for the network.

Union IT and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed that BSNL is set to deploy its 4G network at an impressive pace. Following a three-month testing period, BSNL aims to deploy an average of 200 sites per day. Initially, the BSNL network will operate as a 4G network, but with a minor software adjustment around November-December, it will transition into a 5G network.

Vaishnaw shared this information while speaking to reporters during the commissioning of the 200,000th site in Gangotri, in the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

During the inauguration of the 200,000th site in Chardham, Union IT and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed his satisfaction with the progress of 5G deployment in India. He mentioned that currently, one 5G site is being activated every minute, which has surprised the world. Vaishnaw emphasized that India aims to stand alongside the global community in 5G and take a leading role in 6G technology.

Vaishnaw also highlighted India’s transformation from a technology recipient to a technology exporter. He noted that the days of technology transfers through agreements are behind us. Furthermore, he mentioned that countries like the United States have started deploying telecom technologies made in India.

The minister provided an update on the 5G site rollout, stating that the first 100,000 sites were launched within five months of the Prime Minister’s service launch on October 1. The subsequent 100,000 sites were deployed in three months. The initial target was to reach around 150,000 sites by December 31, 2023, but they have already surpassed 200,000 sites. Vaishnaw expressed optimism that the number of sites would exceed 300,000 by December 31.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his delight at the inauguration of the 5G site in Chardham, stating that it would provide high-speed connectivity to devotees and improve relief and disaster management, surveillance, and economic growth. Additionally, the ministers dedicated the optical fiber connectivity of Chardham (Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamnotri, and Gangotri) in Uttarakhand to the nation, further enhancing connectivity in the region.
