South Korean tech giant Samsung is hoping to work with various telecom operators in India in order to launch the fifth generation cellular network technology in the country. Samsung has the technology and India would get its first 5G network as soon as Indian telcos join hands with the company.

Samsung has already partnered with South Korean telecom operators and launched 5G services in the country recently along with its Galaxy S10 5G-enabled smartphone which was the world’s first 5G phone. Other than its home country, the tech giant is also working with carriers in the US and parts of Europe and is now aiming to partner with India-based carriers.

The company makes 5G solutions and manufacture equipment needed for the same. It already has the 5G network running in parts of the US as well as South Korea in both millimeter wave and sub-6 GHz spectrum.

Samsung Senior Vice President Head of Technology Strategy Team (Mobile Communications Business) Junehee Lee said that Samsung will support multiple bands as various countries may adopt different frequency bands for 5G so that consumers can stay connected.

The company is already providing telecom equipment to Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio and is actively looking forward to partner with other telecom operators. Samsung has been promoting its 5G solutions that can work with a host of nowadays technology from AR (augmented reality)/VR (virtual reality), IoT (Internet of Things) to self-driving/autonomous vehicles.

5G can boast speed up to 20 times faster than 4G LTE, has a latency as low as 1 millisecond, and can support up to a million devices per square kilometer while in 4G it’s 100,000.

“5G networks are poised to enable a whole new generation of platforms and services- right from smart energy conversation, traffic management to new experiences in the community,” said Lee.

He also said that security has always been an important factor for the company. “We want the user to be assured that his experience is secure and safe.”

The new, developing nowadays technology needs higher speed network and 5G is here to fulfill the demand. With higher speeds, the consumer can experience cloud-based high graphics games with no lags, stream 4K videos with no buffering, and can have an enhanced AR/VR experience. However, it will take a lot of time in the establishment of the 5G network and you can expect it no time sooner.

Other telecom equipment suppliers are Ericsson, Nokia, and Huawei. However, it is not clear if India will allow Huawei to participate in the 5G trials after the US banned the company over security concerns. If not allowed, it would benefit Samsung and other competitors.
