MS Dhoni’s biopic “MS Dhoni – The Untold Story” has been banned in Pakistan because of the on-going tension between India and Pakistan since Uri attack. Pakistani distributors have decided to not to bring the biopic in theaters as MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) has recently threatened Pakistani actors to leave India.
IMGC Global Entertainment company based in Pakistan was initially supposed to release the movie in Pakistan. But beacause of the on-going war of words, the company has decided to not to release the biopic on Mahendra Singh Dhoni in Pakistan.
The film is scheduled to be released on September 30 i.e. on Friday, starring Sushant Singh Rajput.
According to the reports, here’s what the company’s chairman quoted, “Amid current tension between the two countries, we have decided not to release the film.”
The ban is definitely going to affect the box office collection of MS Dhoni – The Untold Story as Pakistan is the third highest overseas market for Bollywood.
A petition has also been filed on September 23 at Lahore High Court calling for a ban on all Indian movies till the Kashmir issue is resolved. The PIL was filed by lawyer Azhar Saddique mentioning that running Bollywood films in Pakistani theaters will “hurt sentiments of the people in Pakistan and Kashmir”.
To recall, On September 23, four terrorists attacked the Army Base located in Uri (Around 6km from LOC), killing 18 soldiers. Since then there has been a lot of tension between both countries. A war of words has also been started and the latest came from Raj Thackeray-led organisation MNC asking ban on upcoming movies “Raees” and “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil” as these two movies features Pakistani actors, Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan. Not only this, they have also asked all the Pakistani actors to leave the country immediately.
