Windows 10 Fall Creators Update to kill Microsoft Paint?

Microsoft is taking away our favorite graphics editing app, Microsoft Paint, with the release of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Microsoft officially declared Paint as a “deprecated feature” according to which, Paint will not be in active development and might be removed in future releases.

Talking about its history, Microsoft Paint was introduced in 1985 with Windows 1.0. It became a core part of Windows and was one of the first basic graphics editing software. Almost everyone using Windows is going to miss traditional Paint as it has become a part of our daily life. Whenever we have to quickly edit images, we always head over to Paint, every single time.

Not just Paint, Microsoft also added Outlook Express, Reader app, and Reader list to the list of “features that are removed or deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.”

Image editing features were very much limited in Microsoft Paint till 1998 however, it improved with every release but still, it has limited set of features and does not come in the category of professional graphics editing software. But it was always there when you needed to make a quick cut and paste, crop images, resize the images, create fun art, and a lot of another basic editing.

It appears that Microsoft is aiming to push users towards Paint 3D, an advanced image editing application introduced this year in the month of April with the Windows 10 Creators Update. Paint 3D comes with 3D image making tools as well as some basic 2D image editing features. It came installed alongside Paint with Windows 10 Creators Update.

Adding Paint in the list of “deprecated features” does not mean that it will be removed right away. Microsoft is still due to officially announce the removal of Paint from Windows. It won’t be a surprise if Paint does not come installed with Windows 10 Autumn Creators Update.

Update: Microsoft has confirmed that its traditional graphics editor Microsoft Paint is not going away with the release of Fall Creators Update. It will not come pre-installed however, users can download/ install it from Windows Store.
