Rumors: Samsung to Launch Wireless In-ear Headphones

The question of whether Samsung will ditch the 3.5mm earphone jack in its upcoming flagship smartphone is still unanswered and this latest news from the rumor mill suggests that the chances of the brand keeping the jack aren’t very lively as it seems after all.

Samsung is now supposed to be launching wireless in-ear headphones alongside the Galaxy S8 imitating Apple just like they did it with iPhone 7. It’s still unknown if these will be bundled along with the smartphone or sold separately like Apple does with theirs. The rumor also doesn’t explicitly say we’re talking about truly wireless headphones, like Samsung’s own Gear IconX or Apple’s AirPods. However, it does claim that Samsung really wants to put out a product to compete with the AirPods, so we assume these could be truly wireless after all.

Harman audio tech may have been used in the headphones, but most probably not because Samsung’s acquisition of Harman has happened recently and the headphones were probably already in development by then.

So while this rumor doesn’t directly say that the Galaxy S8 will be devoid of a 3.5mm headset jack, that sure is implied by Samsung’s alleged plan to unveil wireless headphones alongside its next flagship handset. It may once again do what Apple did, and try to soften the blow of the missing port by presenting the world its own AirPods alternatives.
