At a press conference, South Korean electronics giant, Samsung, explained the cause behind the Galaxy Note 7 explosions. The company blamed the battery cells that caused the incidents. The company also highlighted its future safety measures to prevent a recurrence.

Samsung’s President of Mobile Communications Business, DJ Koh, deeply apologized to its Galaxy Note 7 customers and business partners. As per the investigation results announced by the company, the explosions were caused due to the deflections in the negative electrode in the first batch of batteries, while in the second batch, melted copper was found due to short circuit.

To recall, Samsung called off its 2016 flagship device Galaxy Note 7 back in September 2016 because of the explosions reported by the customers. Samsung promised a replacement or money back in exchange of Galaxy Note 7. But the replacements offered by the company also started exploding. After lots of bans on carrying Galaxy Note 7, Samsung was forced to shut down the production of its Galaxy Note 7 device. It caused Samsung a massive loss in terms of profit. Not just profit, the company also lost trust in its customers worldwide.

However, at the press conference, companies mobile business chief highlighted the measure that the company has taken to avoid future recurrence. Here’s what DJ Koh said- “For the last several months, together with independent industry expert organizations, we conducted thorough investigation to find cause to the Galaxy Note7 incidents.”

“Today, more than ever, we are committed to earning the trust of our customers through innovation that redefines what is possible in safety, and as a gateway to unlimited possibilities and incredible new experiences.”

The company has developed 8-points battery safety check according to which the battery goes through extreme testing, inside and out, followed by careful inspection by the X-Ray and human eye. The company also checks its durability and tests the battery by charging and discharging it. Other tests include: TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compund) test- done to ensure that there is no possibility of any leakage, accelerated usage test, and DOCV (Delta Open Circuit Voltage) test.
