Uber CEO Travis Kalanick has left the Donald Trump’s business advisory council which was established last year. Kalanick was set to meet Trump tomorrow for a meeting on business matters. The council also includes SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. The news was first reported by Recode and  New York Times and later confirmed by TechCrunch.

Travis Kalanick has faced a lot of criticism on different social media platforms for working with Trump directly. The relationship with Donald Trump resulted in #DeleteUber campaign which was started on social media. As said by TechCrunch, the criticism helped Uber’s rival Lyft to surpass Kalanick’s app in popularity.

Kalanick’s withdrawal was welcomed by the company’s staff, customers, and business partners as lot of them ware not satisfied with his relationship to Donald Trump. He told company’s employees that his participation in Trump’s economic council “was not meant to be an endorsement of the president or his agenda but unfortunately it has been misinterpreted to be exactly that.”

Uber CEO had expressed his concerns on Trump’s executive order suspending entry of citizens from seven countries saying, “While every government has their own immigration controls, allowing people from all around the world to come here and make America their home has largely been the U.S.’s policy since its founding. That means this ban will impact many innocent people—an issue that I will raise this coming Friday when I go to Washington for President Trump’s first business advisory group meeting.”

He said in his post, as mentioned above, that he will be raising the issue in the upcoming business advisory group meeting. It looks like he won’t be able to do that as he is no longer the member of economic council. An internal email revealed that he “spoke briefly with the President about the immigration executive order and its issues for our community.”
