Google has started rolling out its AI-powered virtual assistant called “Google Assistant” to Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Android 7.0 Nougat smartphone’s users. Google announced the roll out at MWC 2017 held in Barcelona. The virtual assistant made its debut in Google’s Pixel smartphones.
Google later partnered with some smartphone manufacturers to feature Google Assistant. The devices that comes pre-loaded with Google’s virtual assistant are LG G6, Moto G5 & G5 Plus smartphones. It will come pre-installed in more devices soon as the company has partnered with companies like HTC, Huawei, Samsung and Sony.
Now, you don’t have to buy a new smartphone to use Google Assistant as the search engine giant has started rolling it out to every smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or higher in United States followed by United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. It will also be rolled out to German speakers in Germany. The company will be adding more languages to its assistant over the coming year.
“Whether you need to know how to say ‘nice to meet you’ in Korean or just a simple reminder to do laundry when you get home, your Assistant can help. With the Google Assistant on Android phones, you have your own personal, helpful Google right in your pocket,” said Google.
You don’t have to download any app, it will come with Google Play services and will be installed automatically. What you need to do is to stay connected to the internet, that’s it. To get started, simply hold the home button or say “Ok Google.”
“Our goal is to make the Assistant available anywhere you need it. It came to Android Wear 2.0—via new smartwatches—just a few weeks ago and, as we previewed in January, the Assistant is also coming to TVs and cars.”
