Xiaomi launched Mi 5X, a successor to Mi 5, at the MIUI 9 launch event in China. The highlight of the smartphone is that it is the first Xiaomi smartphone to run MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. Xiaomi also showcased its much awaited ROM, MIUI 9 alongside the Xiaomi Mi 5X which will start rolling out in August.

Xiaomi Mi 5X has been priced at CNY 1,499 (approx Rs. 14,300) and will be available to buy on August 1 at 10:00 am when it will go live on its first sale in China. It is available in Black, Pink, and Gold color options. Registrations for the first sale are now open.

Coming to its design, the all new Xiaomi Mi 5X sports metal unibody with 5.5-inch FHD (1920×1080 pixels) LTPS display. It looks a lot similar to iPhone 7 Plus in terms of design. It is powered by 2GHz 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. It comes with 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 128GB via microSD card. As of now, it is the only storage variant that has been launched.

Xiaomi Mi 5X features 12MP dual rear camera setup- 12MP (1.25-micron pixels) wide-angle, f/2.2 aperture lens and 12MP (1-micron pixels) telephoto, f/2.6 aperture lens- with PDAF (phase detection auto focus), portrait mode for bokeh effect, face detection, HDR, and dual tone LED flash. On the other hand, the smartphone features a 5MP front facing sensor for taking selfies.

It’s a dual SIM (Nano) smartphone that comes packed with 3080mAh battery and supports fast charging via its USB Type-C port. Xiaomi Mi 5X runs MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat and sports fingerprint sensor placed on the rear panel. It also packs standard connectivity options such as 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and Infrared. Sensors on the smartphone include proximity, accelerometer, ambient light, infrared, magnetometer, and gyroscope.
