India’s one of two major telecoms Bharti Airtel has now announced the addition of Lucknow, UP, to its “cutting-edge” 5G-enabled cities in India. The Airtel 5G Plus services will be available to telecom consumers in a phased manner. Airtel promises to offer “massive speeds and the best voice experience” with its 5G services.

The 5G services in Lucknow are currently operational at Gomti Nagar, Hazratganj, Aliganj, Aishbag, Rajajipuram, Aminabad, Jankipuram, Alambagh, Vikas Nagar, and a few other select locations. In due course of time “Airtel will augment its network making its services available across the city.”

“I am thrilled to announce the launch of Airtel 5G Plus in Lucknow. Airtel customers can now experience ultrafast networks and enjoy speeds up to 20-30 times faster than the current 4G speeds,” CEO Sovan Mukherjee, Bharti Airtel, Uttar Pradesh said. “We are in the process of lighting up the entire city which will allow customers to enjoy superfast access to High-definition video streaming, gaming, multiple chatting, instant uploading of photos, and more.”

Airtel 5G Plus services have already rolled out in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, Varanasi, Panipat, Gurugram, Guwahati, and Patna. By the end of next year, the telecom operator will have 5G coverage across all major cities of India.

Here are some answers to questions you must be having:

  • Airtel 5G services will work on all 5G-enabled smartphones.
  • There’s no need for a SIM change, your existing 4G SIM will work with 5G.
  • Until the roll-out is complete, existing data plans will work on 5G.

Airtel reported last month that there are now more than 1 million 5G consumers across the country and the count is increasing as the day passes.

For iPhone owners, Apple has recently announced that it has started rolling out 5G support on iPhones in India for Airtel and Jio subscribers. iPhone models released in 2020 or later are compatible and that includes all the variants of iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14, and iPhone SE (2022). In order to activate 5G services, head over to your iPhone’s settings and then update your software to iOS 16.2.
