Xiaomi has introduced an all-new Redmi Y-series of smartphones and added Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite as first two members. The company has also announced the rollout of MIUI 9 which it announced months ago and according to it, Redmi Note 4, Mi Mix 2, and Mi Max 2 will receive the UI update in the first phase early November while other Xiaomi smartphones will receive the OTA update later this month.
Redmi Y1 has been priced at Rs. 8,999 for the 3GB/ 32GB variant and Rs. 10,999 for the 4GB/ 64GB variant. On the other hand, Redmi Y1 Lite comes with a price tag of Rs. 6,999. The first sale is on November 8 via Amazon India and Mi.com and later it will be made available via authorized retail outlets across the country. Redmi Y1 will be made available in Gold, Dark Grey, and Rose Gold color options. The Rose Gold variant will be available to buy later.
Starting with Redmi Y1, the smartphone sports 5.5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display that comes protected with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core SoC paired with Adreno 505 GPU and your choice of RAM i.e. 3GB or 4GB. It comes in two storage options as we mentioned earlier- 32GB and 64GB which can be expanded further up to 128GB via microSD card.
Redmi Y1 features a 13MP rear sensor with PDAF (phase detection autofocus), f/2.2 aperture, low-light enhancements, HDR, panorama, burst mode, face recognition, and dual LED flash. Device’s highlight is its 16MP front camera with f/2.0 large aperture, 36 smart beauty profiles, beautify, 76.4-degree wide angle lens, selfie countdown, and self-tones selfie-light that adjusts skin tone and highlights eyes.
It’s a dual SIM (Nano) smartphone with a separate slot for microSD card and packs 3080mAh battery and supports fast charging. Redmi Y1 runs company’s latest version of UI called MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. Connectivity options on board the smartphone include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, infrared, GPS/ A-GPS/ GLONASS/ Beidou, 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro USB port for charging. Sensors on the device include proximity, accelerometer, ambient light, magnetometer, hall, and gyroscope. There is also a fingerprint sensor mounted on the rear side of the smartphone.
Talking about Redmi Y1 Lite, the device sports 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display and is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core SoC paired with 500MHz Adreno 308 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 128GB via microSD card. It also runs MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat, however, there is no fingerprint sensor on the device.
Redmi Y1 Lite features 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, low light enhancements, HDR, panorama, burst mode, face recognition, and LED flash while on the front side it sports 5MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture, 36 smart beauty profiles, face recognition, and selfie countdown. The smartphone supports two nano-SIMs and also has a dedicated microSD card slot. It packs 3080mAh battery and packs standard connectivity options (same as Redmi Y1). Sensors on board Redmi Y1 Lite include proximity, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, hall sensor, and ambient light. Redmi Y1 Lite will be available to buy in Gold and Dark Grey color options.
