Comic-Con 2022: Phase 5 and Phase 6 of Marvel Cinematic Universe announced

Marvel Studios took to the stage of the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con International convention and announced new titles for Phase 5 and even Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe including two new Avengers movies. Marvel Studio’s president Kevin Fiege made it clear to the audience worldwide that Marvel has no plans of slowing down.

The ongoing Phase 4 will end with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever which is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2022, but before that, She-Hulk is all set to make her debut in the MCU with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law television series. The series will premiere on the Disney+ streaming service on August 17, 2022.

The studio released an emotional teaser for the upcoming Ryan Coogler-directed Black Panther movie as the franchise faced uncertainty after the death of Chadwick Bosman, the lead star who died of colon cancer in August 2020. Watch here:

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is all set to be released next year on February 17, 2023, as Phase 5’s and year’s first Marvel movie. It will be a sequel to 2015’s Ant-Man and 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp with Peyton Reed as director. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly will be playing their respective lead roles as Ant-Man (Lang)/Wasp (Hope van Dyne) alongside Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer as Hank Pym/Janet van Dyne (Pym’s wife). The sequel will introduce Jonathan Majors as the new Supervillain Kang the Conqueror.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3

Guardians of the Galaxy is back with Volume 3 which will mark the end of the story for the Guardians crew according to the director James Gunn. Volume 3 will introduce new characters like Adam Warlock played by Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog.

Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

The film will star all the original characters- Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/ Star-Lord, Zoe Saldaña as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha, Sean Gunn as Kraglin Obfonteri, and Sylvester Stallone as Stakar Ogord.

The next in the line is The Marvels, a sequel to Captain Marvel which was released in 2019. The upcoming Captain Marvel movie started filming in April 2021 and was announced in December 2020 during The Walt Disney Company’s 2020 Investor Day presentation by Kevin Feige. It was titled Captain Marvel 2 and was scheduled to release later this year in November.

Now the movie will premiere in theaters worldwide starting July 28, 2023. Marvel Studios’ The Marvels will introduce a new superhero named Ms. Marvel aka Kamala Khan played by Iman Vellani. Iman Vellani has already made her debut as Ms. Marvel in a Disney+ television series currently streaming on the said platform.

Blade

Another anticipated release is the Blade which fans worldwide have been waiting for as it will star two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali. Fiege announced at SDCC 2019 that Ali will take on the role of Blade who is half-human and half-vampire. Directed by Bassam Tariq, the film will also star Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo in pivotal roles.

Filming is expected to begin later this year in October. Marvel Studios’ Blade is scheduled to be released on November 3, 2023, in theaters worldwide.

Captain America: New World Order

The next in order is the much-awaited Captain America 4 titled Captain America: New World Order, scheduled to be released on May 3, 2024. Captain Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) took retirement at the end of Avengers: Endgame and handed over the shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) to carry forward Captain America’s legacy.

It was only after a series of events that took place in the Disney+ series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier that Sam agreed to take on Captain America’s shield. Get ready for Sam’s next adventure as Captain America wearing a whole new Vibranium suit equipped with wings and Captain’s shield. The movie’s plot is still under the wraps but we do know that it will be directed by Julius Onah.

Thunderbolts

Phase 5 will end with Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts which is Marvel’s equivalent to DC’s Suicide Squad as the movie revolves around a group of anti-heroes sent on missions commissioned by the government. The plot of the film is still under the wraps and the filming is expected to begin in mid-2023.

The movie is in the works since June 2022. Penning the script will be Eric Pearson, the screenwriter behind Black Widow and Thor: Ragnarok. Robot and Frank’s Jack Schreier will be sitting in the director’s chair.

Thunderbolts is slated for theaters on July 26, 2024.

MCU Phase 6 (Films)

Fantastic Four

Kevin Fiege, during the presentation at SDCC 2022, announced that Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four hits theaters on November 8, 2024, featuring Marvel’s most iconic family of superheroes.

Fantastic Four has finally made its way in Phase 6 of MCU after it was announced by Fiege back in SDCC 2019 and it will also be the first movie to be released in this phase. Jon Watts was appointed as the Director in December 2020 but in April this year he stepped away from the film.

Production for the MCU version of Fantastic Four will kick off next year in 2023.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Phase 4 and Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe didn’t have any Avengers movies but now in Phase 6, we are finally getting not one but two Avengers movies. The first one is titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty which is set to be released on May 2, 2025.

Not much information regarding the movie is available right now on the internet but we do know that Kang is one of the earliest supervillains and an opponent of the Avengers and Fantastic Four. Kang the Conqueror will make his debut in the MCU with Ant-Man and The Wasp.

Avengers: Secret Wars

This is the second Avengers movie that is scheduled to be released in 2025. Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Secret Wars will be released in theaters on November 7, 2025 and will mark the end of Phase 6 of MCU. Not much is known about the movie as of now except for the release date but the announcement of two Avengers movies in 2025 has finally got the fans extremely excited.
