Pakistan Invited India For Talks On Kashmir

Pakistan today invited India for talks on Kashmir, saying it is the international obligation of both the countries to resolve the issue. Nafees Zakaira, Foreign Office spokesperson, said in a statement that Indian High Commisioner Gautam Bambawale was called to hand over the letter of invitation for talks on Kashmir.

“The Foreign Secretary called in the Indian High Commissioner this afternoon (15 August 2016) and handed over a letter addressed to his Indian counterpart, inviting him to visit Pakistan for talks on Jammu and Kashmir dispute that has been the main bone of contention between India and Pakistan,” said Nafees Zakaira.

Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister, recently addressed Parliament on Kashmir issue. He said that India is willing to talk about only PoK (Pakistan occupied Kashmir) with Pakistan.

Recently during the elections in Pakistan Nawaz Sharif commented on Kashmir stating that “We are waiting for the day Kashmir becomes part of Pakistan.” Sushma Swaraj reacted strongly to the statement. Slowly a war of words started between the two nations over the Kashmir issue which extended the invitation.

Talking about the invitation letter, “The letter highlights the international obligation of both the countries, India and Pakistan, to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions,” the statement said.

India made it clear that it would talk on “contemporary and relevent” issues in Indo-Pak relations and also virtually rejected Pakistan’s proposal that it would invite India for a dialogue on Jammu & Kashmir.
