India’s longest expressway will be opened to all from today. Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will inaugurate the Agra-Lucknow Expressway along with his father who is also Samajwadi Party Chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav. The highlight of the inauguration are the Indian Air Force’s Eight top Jets, set to touch down the newly built Agra-Lucknow Expressway during the inauguration.
The inauguration ceremony will be held at Unnao, 50km from Lucknow. This type of inauguration will be first of its kind as it never happened in the Indian history before.
Four Sukhoi jets will take off from Bareilly and four Mirage 2000s from Gwalior and skim the six-lane highway in simulated landings.
On November 18, a fighter jet practiced on a 3.3 km stretch of the highway marked for landings. Today’s IAF show is a part of the inauguration, but, Defence Ministry has planned to land the jets on the Expressway in emergencies or when military air fields are not available.
Something bad recently happened with a bureaucrat who were witnessing the the jet landing got injured in a car crash on the newly built Agra-Lucknow expressway. Before it happened, CM Akhilesh Yadav had warned against speeding on the expressway saying “I request you to drive on the expressway with caution and not exceed a speed limit of 100 km an hour.” CM had also taken a road trip with his family recently on the Agra-Lucknow expressway.
While talking about the expressway, it’s 300km long which makes its India’s longest expressway till date. It has been built within 23 months. It has been connected to Yamuna Expressway to offer a direct link to Agra. According to the officials, the expressway will have its own traffic management system to deal with fog and road accidents. The expressway will also connect Unnao and Kanpur through its eight-lane bridge across the river Ganga.
