GM5, First Android One Smartphone With Android 7.0 Nougat

Turkish manufacturer General Mobile launched GM5, first Android One smartphone to have Android 7.0 Nougat on board. It’s General Mobile’s third Android One smartphone since Google’s Android One initiative reached Turkey. The first one was General Mobile 4G launched last year and the second Android One smartphone was General Mobile 5 Plus, which was launched this year in February. Now, General Mobile is back with GM5.

To recall, Google’s Android One initiative was first launched in India in 2014 and since then it has expanded to several Asian countries, such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Indonesia, Philippines, and Turkey.

Concentrating on General Mobile GM5, it sports 5-inch HD (720×1280 px) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. The smartphone is powered by 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM. It comes with 16GB of internal storage which can’t be expanded further. GM5 runs on Android 7.0 Nougat, Google’s latest version of Android OS.




The smartphone features 13MP rear camera with dual-LED flash, auto focus, and 4x digital zoom. On the other hand it has 5MP front facing camera for selfies. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Blutooth v4.0, GPS, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, and FM Radio.

It’s a single SIM smartphone packed with 2,500 mAh battery. GM5 will be available in Golden, Space Gray, and Black color options. Sensors on board include- Proximity, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, and Ambient Light sensor.

However the company has not yet mentioned the price, but confirmed that it will go live on sale this month. The smartphone will be available to buy in 20 markets. The list include, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Albania, Belgium, Bosnia, Cyprus, Croatia, Ghana, Georgia, Greece, Iraq, Kenya, Luxembourg, Moldova, Netherlands, Tunisia, Turkey, Pakistan, Serbia, and Uzbekistan. The phone will also support countries’ local languages.
