MediaTek Helio P25 Octa-Core SoC Launched

MediaTek has launched a new Helio P25 octa-core SoC (system-on-chips) for dual-camera smartphones. The all new Helio P25 is 25 percent more power efficient and consumes lesser energy in comparison to previous versions. The new chip is targeted towards dual-camera smartphone while boosting the graphics processing capabilities.

The Helio P25 is the latest addition to the MediaTek Helio P series processor family. It delivers seamless performance as it combines the power of 16nm processing with MediaTek’s Imagiq, an Image Signal Processor (ISP) technology.

Its 12-bit dual ISP offers support for up to 24MP single camera and 13MP+13MP dual cameras and is optimized for features like Color + Mono de-noise and real time shallow DoF (depth-of-field) bokeh. It also packs support for video HDR with full preview and comes with Turbo 3A (High performance auto exposure) to accelerate AE convergence speed by 30-55%.

“MediaTek Helio P25 paves the way for high-resolution and feature-rich smartphone cameras that enable amazing static shots and 4K2K videos,” said Jeffrey Ju, Executive Vice President and Co-Chief Operating Officer (MediaTek).

He further added- “Supporting two cameras up to 13MP each, the MediaTek Helio P25 redefines expectations for mobile photography and our multimedia features like, MediaTek MiraVision technology, continuously enhance visual user-experiences.”

It’s an octa-core  ARM Cortex-A53 processor clocked at up to 2.5GHz and uses 16nm FinFET process nodes to deliver 25% more power efficiency while using less energy. It also packs the recent ARM Mali-T880 dual GPU clocked at up to 900MHz for perfect gaming and video experience. It also adds support for enhanced uploads in LTE (up to 64QAM uplink for LTE-TDD mode) and is compatible with MediaTek’s Envelope Tracking Modulator to deliver more processing power and less heat.

MediaTek Helio P25 SoC comes handy with low power double data rate random access memory (LPDDR4x) up to 6GB. This improves bandwidth by up to 70% and reduces RAM’s power needs for energy-efficient multitasking, contributing to an improved user experience, claims company.

Smartphone manufacturers have adopted the new chipset from MediaTek which will be launched soon. According to the company, smartphones powered by MediaTek Helio P25 are expected to be on the market in Q1 2017.
