Uber partners with Flipkart to deliver essential supplies amid COVID-19 lockdown

Uber has partnered with Flipkart to help the e-commerce platform deliver essential products to people during the ongoing nationwide lockdown because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. This is the third B2B partnership within a week, says Uber.

The cab aggregator has recently partnered with Big Basket (online grocery store) and Spencer’s Retail for its new last-mile delivery service, a service that aims to facilitate the delivery of essential supplies to consumers across Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore using company’s fleet of cars and bikes.

Uber won’t charge any commission for this service and will give all the money earned through these deliveries to the drivers.

Safety equipment like masks, gloves, and sanitizers are being provided to drivers associated with this service in order to contain the spread of the virus and ensure their safety, says Uber.

Drivers are also being provided with specialized safety training to ensure the highest possible safety and hygiene standards.

“All these deals help in keeping citizens indoors so we can collectively support the government in helping contain the spread of COVID-19,” stated Prabhjeet Singh, Director – Operations, and Head of Cities, Uber India & South Asia, in a blog post.

The 21-days nationwide lockdown in India is set to end on April 14 as announced by the central government last month. At the time of writing, India has confirmed over 4,500 COVID-19 positive cases and a death toll of over 120.
