HBO confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that it has suffered a major cyber attack which leaked 1.5TB of its data including upcoming episodes of the HBO series Ballers and Room 104. HBO is not yet sure about what damage hackers have caused, the entertainment network is still investigating.
Upcoming episodes of popular HBO series Room 104 and Ballers have surfaced online after the leak. Hackers claimed to have stolen 1.5 terabytes of data from HBO servers and promised to leak more content.
The hack also included some written files, maybe a script of Game of Thrones‘ upcoming episode. HBO hasn’t revealed what content is leaked, however, it notified its employees Monday morning via Email that its servers were compromised and also warned about more leaks which are still to be put online.
In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, HBO said “HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information. We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cyber security firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.”
Not only HBO, Netflix also suffered a hack which leaked episodes from season 5 of Orange is the New Black TV series. Entertainment industry’s biggest cyber attack victim was Sony in 2014 which leaked 100TB of data following the hack.
It’s really disturbing and terrifying!
