IFA: Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact specifications, price

Sony has launched a range of Xperia smartphones at this year’s IFA trade show expanding its Xperia X series portfolio- Sony Xperia XZ1, Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact, and Sony Xperia XA1 Plus.

Pricing & Availability: The company hasn’t revealed Xperia XA1 Plus price, however, the other two smartphones, Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact, have been priced at $699 and $599 respectively. Both the smartphones will be shipped in the month of September while the Xperia XA1 Plus is expected to start shipping in Autumn this year.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact sports  4.6-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) Sony’s Triluminous display that comes protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It is powered by 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa core SoC paired with Adreno 540 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 256GB via microSD card. It will be made available in Black, White Silver, Horizon Blue, and Twilight Pink color options.


It features 19MP Motion Eye Exmor RS sensor on the rear with 3D image sensing, 5-axis stabilization, slow motion video recording @ 960fps, LED flash and supports 4K video recording. The device also packs 8MP front facing camera with 120-degree wide angle lens.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact also packs some advanced features to enhance device’s audio I/O such as Hi-Res Audio, S-Force surround sound, Qualcomm aptX audio software, and digital noise cancellation. The highlight of the smartphone is that it runs on Google’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo.

It’s a single SIM smartphone that comes packed with 2700mAh battery and supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology to quickly fuel up the phone’s battery. Xperia XZ1 Compact is IP68 rated which makes it both water and dust resistant. Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC, USB Type-C, GPS/ A-GPS/ GLONASS, and 3.5mm audio jack. Sensors on board Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact include proximity, accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, ambient light, magnetometer, and color spectrum. It also sports fingerprint sensor embedded on the power button which is located on the right side, however, its availability will depend on markets.
