Nokia 8 launched in India, all you want to know

HMD Global owned Nokia has launched its high-end smartphone named Nokia 8 at an event in New Delhi, India. The flagship smartphone that was launched globally in London at a price of EUR 599 which is equivalent to Rs. 45,000, has been launched in India at a price of Rs. 36,999.

The smartphone will be made available to buy on October 14 online via Amazon India exclusively. You can also buy it offline via Croma, Reliance Digital, and BigC outlets located across the country. All Nokia 8 units will be manufactured in India and will be available in Polished Copper, Polished Blue, Tempered Blue, and Steel color variants. The Polished Copper variant will be sold later. It comes with Jio offer, offering up to 100GB of additional data to Jio customers. You can avail 10GB of extra data which will be credited each month on recharging with Rs. 309 or above, valid up to 10 recharges until August 2018.

Nokia 8 is built with 6000-series aluminum and sports unibody design with 5.3-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) IPS display that comes protected with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core (4 Kyro cores @ 1.8GHz & 4 Kyro cores @ 2.45GHz) SoC paired with 4GB of LPPDDR4X RAM. It comes with 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 256GB via microSD card.


The highlight of Nokia 8 is its camera that comes with ZEISS optics and dual-sight mode or bothie. It features 13MP dual image-fusion rear cameras (Color + OIS & Monochrome) with PDAF (phase detection autofocus), 1.12-micron pixels, f/2.0 aperture, IR range finder, and dual tone LED flash. It also packs 13MP selfie camera with wide angle lens, PDAF, 1.12-micron pixels, f/2.0 aperture, and display flash.

With dual-sight mode or bothie, users can make use of both front and rear camera simultaneously for split-screen videos and photos. Nokia 8 is the first smartphone that supports bothie. You can live stream video using both front and back cameras at the same time to Facebook Live or YouTube Live. Content creators can natively broadcast their unique Bothie stories to social media through the Dual-Sight functionality located within the camera app.

Other features include 4K video recording with Nokia OZO spatial 360-degree audio technology for surround sound recording using three microphones. The tech lets you focus on sounds that matter to you while reducing background noise. The technology is also used by Hollywood filmmakers and music producers. Nokia 8 comes with an IP54 rating which makes the smartphone splashproof. In terms of heat management, the device comes equipped with a copper pipe (from upper right corner to lower left) having liquid evaporating in the middle and condensing on the edges while the graphite shield transfers heat to the aluminum unibody which is then dissipated to the air.

It’s a dual SIM (Nano) smartphone that comes packed with 3090mAh battery and runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, however, the company has promised Android 8.0 Oreo update. Connectivity options include- 4G LTE Cat. 9, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/AGPS+GLONASS+BDS, NFC, 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C charging port. Sensors on the smartphone include proximity, accelerometer, ambient light, gyroscope, magnetometer, fingerprint, hall sensor, and barometer.
