Oppo A83 comes with face unlock feature, full specifications

Oppo unveiled yet another smartphone for Chinese smartphone market called Oppo A83 featuring, following the latest smartphone trend, 18:9 aspect ratio. Oppo also launched two new smartphones in Taiwan named Oppo A75 and Oppo A75s with 18:9 aspect ratio.

The budget smartphone launched in China has been priced at CNY 1,399 (approx Rs. 13,700 or $210) and will go on sale December 29. The company is offering the smartphone in Champagne and Black color options. Oppo is giving away its Bluetooth headset QY7 for free on purchase of Oppo A83. There are no words on device’s availability in markets other than China.

In terms of specifications, the smartphone sports 5.7-inch HD+ LCD display with a resolution of 720×1440 pixels. It is powered by a 2.5GHz octa-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. The device comes with 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 256GB via microSD card.

Oppo A83 sports 16MP rear autofocus camera paired with an LED flash. On the other hand, the smartphone sports 8MP camera for capturing selfies. It runs Color OS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat.

The smartphone sports fingerprint sensor on the rear side and also supports Oppo AI Face recognition. You can either use your fingers or your face to unlock the smartphone. Oppo claims that its facial recognition technology uses 128 unique facial features points to recognize the owner and can unlock the device within 0.18 seconds. We recommend you to use fingerprint or other traditional device unlocking methods because facial recognition is less secure in comparison.

It’s a dual-SIM smartphone that comes with a dedicated slot for MicroSD card and packs 3090mAh non-removable battery. Connectivity options on board Oppo A83 include 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, Micro USB port, and 3.5mm audio jack. Sensors on the smartphone include proximity, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, and magnetometer.
