Chinese Lunar Year killings suspect shot himself

The search for the mass shooter came to an end when police found the 72-year-old suspect, Huu Can Tran, dead inside a van. He apparently shot himself when surrounded by the police.

Huu Can Tran opened fire at a Chinese Lunar year gathering at Monterey Park, California. Police heard a gunshot when reached a parked van in which the suspect may have hidden.

According to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, “The suspect sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Sheriff Robert Luna confirmed that “there are no other suspects in the mass shooting incident and the motive for the shooting is still unknown.”

“Five of the victim were male and five were female,” Sheriff added. Another 10 people were shot and 7 of them remain hospitalized.

President Joe Biden issued a written statement and said he had directed his Homeland Security adviser to mobilize federal support for local authorities.
