Ed Sheeran’s Shape of You took over Drake’s One Dance on Spotify

Taking over Drake’s One Dance, Ed Sheeran’s global hit song Shape of You has finally topped Spotify’s most played song playlist making it the most streamed song ever on Spotify. Drake’s One Dance ruled over Spotify’s all-time hits list for almost a year.

To be more specific, Shape of You has been streamed over 1.318 billion times on the world’s most popular online music streaming platform. Released in January, Shape of You is a song from British songwriter’s third studio album named Divide and since its release, the song topped charts all around the world.

The track also broke some other records on Spotify in the very first week and later on. Ed Sheeran became a global fame after his song Thinking Out Loud which is currently the sixth most played song ever on Spotify.


The dancehall-infused pop song also reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 in America. It just not achieved the No. 1 spot, it also became one of the 30 songs that immediately started their charting run at the peak position.

The track Shape of You was written and produced by Ed Sheeran and Steve Mac along with some other writing contributions. Shape of You topped the singles chart of 35 different countries including the US Billboard Hot 100. It stayed at No. 1 on Hot 100 in America for 12 non-consecutive weeks.

Now Drake’s One Dance is chasing Shape of You on Spotify at the second spot followed by The Chainsmokers’ Closer, Major Lazer and DJ Snake’s Lean On, and Justin Bieber’s Sorry.
