Gmail now converts addresses, phone numbers into links

Gmail has started converting contact information like phone numbers and addresses into links to save your precious time. This new update has started rolling out to everyone using Gmail and Inbox on Android, iOS, and the Web. It could take up to three days to roll out completely.

Now you don’t have to copypaste the address on Maps everytime someone sends you one via Gmail or Inbox. From now on, Gmail will automatically convert addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers into links which when opened would take users directly to the apps assigned to that particular task.

To elaborate, address links will take you to Google Maps, clicking on the email address will take you directly to your default email client while clicking on phone numbers will open your phone’s dialer or Google’s Hangouts. It is indeed time-saving and more user-friendly.

As a matter of fact, you won’t be able to make calls if you are using your computer to read emails. Phone number, address, and email address appear as hyperlinks on all the platforms making switching between apps easier for users.

“Gmail users often exchange information like addresses and phone numbers with each other to set up meetings, introduce colleagues, and plan events. Precious time can be lost by having to copy and paste this information from an email into other apps and websites, so we wanted to provide a better way to perform these tasks that also saves time,” stated G Suite team in a blog post.
