The much-awaited sequel to Wonder Woman- Wonder Woman 1984 starring Gal Gadot has been delayed the fourth time since the initial release and will now be played in theaters in 2D, 3D, and IMAX in December on Christmas Day in the United States.

The DC’s Wonder Woman was a big hit with over $820 million box-office collection worldwide and now its sequel is ready for the big-release and if not delayed this time, you can have your eyes on it in theaters on December 25, 2020.

Before being moved up to November 1, 2019, Wonder Woman 1984 was set to make its way to theaters in December 2019 but to accommodate Disney’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the production house delayed it for the summer release i.e. in July 2020 and got postponed again to release on August 14 due to ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The pandemic kept on worsening and it was delayed again to release on October 2, 2020. Now, when the date was near, filmmakers have again delayed the film as they “look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays.”

“We’re very proud of the film and look forward to bringing it to audiences for the holidays,” said Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. Pictures chairman, in a statement.

Filmmakers want a bigger audience and hope that releasing it during the holidays would do the trick. “Because I know how important it is to bring this movie to you on a big screen when all of us can share the experience together, I’m hoping you won’t mind waiting just a little bit longer,” said Patty Jenkins, the director of the film.

Due to the pandemic, there are still some countries forcing lockdown on public gatherings which include theaters. This will impose a big loss on Wonder Woman 1984’s worldwide box-office collection and the movie won’t reach the target audience.

The film is the ninth installment in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), directed by Patty Jenkins from a script she wrote with Geoff Johns and David Callaham and a story by Johns and Jenkins. While Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder, Zack Snyder, Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot, and Stephen Jones are producing the film.

It stars Wonder Woman fame Gal Godot as Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, alongside Chris Pine who plays as Steve Trevor, an American pilot, spy, and Diana’s love interest. The film also stars Kristen Wiig as Cheetah, Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord, Robin Wright as Antiope, and Connie Nielsen as Hippolyta in supporting roles.

In the next big adventure, Wonder Woman comes into conflict with two all-new foes: Max Lord (a businessman) and the Cheetah (a friend-turned-enemy) while reuniting with Steve Trevor, her love interest.

Fans worldwide, have been eagerly waiting for the film to release but the pandemic caused global disruptions, and the delays in the release are understandable.

Also, Warner Bros’ Tenet, which is currently in theaters, won’t have to compete with production’s next big release Wonder Woman 1984 now, which is another reason (untold) for the delay.

On the other hand, DC’s rival Marvel is all set to bring its next big installment (24th) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)- Black Widow starring Scarlett Johansson, scheduled to release on November 6, 2020. The film is produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
