Google has confirmed that they won’t be using the dessert-themed names for upcoming versions of Android OS and that the next Android would be called Android 10. According to Google, it’s going to be easier this way for the global community to understand.

Putting an end to the 10-year old dessert-based android naming tradition, Google said that with the upcoming android, it is changing the way it names the Android releases to make them clear and relatable for users around the world.

Sameer Samat, VP of Product Management, Android wrote– “We’ve heard feedback over the years that the names weren’t always understood by everyone in the global community. For example, L and R are not distinguishable when spoken in some languages.”

Sameer also explained that it has become hard for people to distinguish between the different android versions and if their phone is running the latest release. And for the ones who recently switched to android, it’s even harder.

“So, the next release of Android will simply use the version number and be called Android 10.”

It’s not that Google is out of dessert names as it explained: “While there were many tempting ‘Q’ desserts out there, we think that at version 10 and 2.5 billion active devices, it was time to make this change.”

Not just the way it names, Google has also changed the way Android logo looks. Now, the brand color has been changed from green to black for better visibility as it was hard to read for people with visual impairments. Also, the Android robot has got a special place in the logo as can be seen in the photo above.

Google will start rolling out the updated logo with the final release of Android 10 in the coming weeks.
