Truecaller Enhances Premium Subscriptions with Call Recording Feature for iOS and Android Users

Truecaller has recently announced the reintroduction of call recording support on its popular caller identification app for smartphones. While the feature was previously available on Android devices, it was discontinued due to Google’s crackdown on apps using accessibility features to record calls. However, Truecaller has found a workaround, enabling both iPhone and Android users to record calls. It’s worth noting that this feature will only be accessible to Truecaller Premium subscribers.

In a recent blog post, Truecaller revealed that call recording support would be introduced on iOS in the United States. Once a call is recorded, users will be able to access the recorded files within the Truecaller app. They can listen to the recordings, rename them, delete them, or share them as desired. However, to enjoy this feature, users must have a Truecaller Premium subscription.

To overcome Apple’s limitations on iOS, Truecaller employs a workaround. The app dials a recording line, which users must merge with an incoming call. After the call ends, users will receive a notification indicating that the recording is ready. For incoming calls, users will need to dial the recording line, followed by the contact’s number, and then merge the calls.

According to a Forbes report, Android users who have set Truecaller as their default dialer app will have the ability to record calls with ease. Although the official Truecaller website does not explicitly mention call recording as a feature for Android, the report states that Android users can simply press a button within the Truecaller app to initiate call recording. This functionality allows for a seamless and convenient call-recording experience for Truecaller users on Android devices.

For users who prefer using the built-in dialer, such as Google’s Phone app, app has implemented a floating recording button. When users have Truecaller installed as a separate app and initiate a call using the built-in dialer, they will see this floating recording button, which they can tap to start recording the call. This feature provides an alternative method for Android users to easily record their calls while using their preferred dialer.

The App is also introducing searchable transcripts of call recordings, which will be gradually rolled out to users in the United States in the coming weeks. This feature will enable users to conveniently search and access specific parts of their recorded calls.

To ensure transparency and comply with call recording regulations, Truecaller will play a beep sound to inform the other party on the call that the conversation is being recorded. This audible alert during recording is similar to the call recording experience offered by the native Google Phone app on many Android devices. The beep acts as a notification for the participants, indicating when the call recording starts and ends.

According to a company’s spokesperson, the call recording feature, which is currently available in the United States for both iOS and Android users, is expected to roll out to other regions in the near future. Specifically, it has been confirmed that call recording for iOS and Android will soon be available to users in India. Similar to the US release, this feature will be accessible to Truecaller Premium subscribers in India as well. Truecaller is actively working on expanding the availability of this feature to cater to users in different regions.
