Xiaomi unveiled its latest Augmented Reality Glasses during Mobile World Congress (MWC 2023) in Barcelona. Powered by Qualcomm’s latest XR platform, these Xiaomi AR glasses are a Prototype of the company’s latest innovation in AR and VR technology.
The glasses feature a transparent display that allows users to see both the physical world and digital content simultaneously, creating an augmented reality experience. It is equipped with an advanced “retina-level” display that is designed to connect to a smartphone wirelessly and is claimed to offer latency as low as 50ms.
The Xiaomi AR Glass is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 platform and has a 0.5-inch MicroLED display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. It also features dual fisheye cameras, four microphones, and gesture recognition technology.
The glasses are designed to be lightweight and comfortable to wear. Built with lightweight materials including magnesium-lithium alloy and carbon fiber parts. Packed with a silicon-oxygen anode battery, Xiaomi says they weigh only 126g.
Xiaomi claims its wireless AR glasses are among the industry’s first to achieve a “retina-level” display. The company says that when the angular resolution (or pixels per degree/ PPD) of a display is 60, pixels become indistinguishable from the human eye. According to the company, the Xiaomi Wireless AR Glass Discovery Edition has a PPD of 58.
Some of the applications of Xiaomi AR Glass include virtual home design, gaming, remote collaboration, and education. The glasses can also be used for navigation, translation, and object recognition.
As of February 2023, the Xiaomi AR Glass has not yet been released for consumer use. However, Xiaomi has announced that it is in the process of developing the product and plans to release it in the near future.
