Telecom regulator Trai today said it will examine Reliance Jio’s latest offer providing free 4G services for all its customers till March 31, 2017.
“We will look into it. Every tariff that is filed before us is examined. We will come up with our response at appropriate time,” Trai chairman RS Sharma told PTI when asked about validity of Jio’s offer.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had earlier allowed Jio to provide free services till the end of this year for customers who subscribed to its services till December 3.
Continuing its free services that were introduced with the Jio Welcome Offer in September, Reliance Jio Happy New Year Offer will provide free data, voice calls, and Jio apps till March 31, 2017. The Reliance Jio Happy New Year Offer is applicable for both new and existing users, the company chairman said at an event on Thurday. The Reliance Happy New Year Offer starts from December 4, a day after the company’s Jio Welcome offer ends.
“Starting December 4, 2016, every new Jio user will get the data, voice, and full bouquet of the Jio apps free till March 31, 2017,” Mukesh Ambani said about the Reliance Jio extended Welcome Offer. “This is the Jio Happy New Year offer. All our existing 52 million users will continue to enjoy the Welcome Offer till 31st December, and then automatically be signed up for the New Year offer. No need to buy a new SIM.”
Well talking about the Happy New Year Offer, it comes with an FUP limit of 1GB per day as compared to the 4GB FUP on the Welcome Offer, Happy New Offer will limit how much free high-speed data you can download on the Jio network.
Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani says this was done because some users are misusing their free data privileges and clogging it up for the rest of the people on the networks. This is not surprising to hear given this is free data we are talking about. Jio will reduce speeds to 128kbps after a user exhausts the 1GB limit on the Happy New Year plan.
