MobiKwik launched Gujarati version of its wallet called “MobiKwik LITE” at an event in Ahmedabad. According to Upasana Taku, co-founder of MobiKwik, the wallet now has over 45 million users nationwide. Before the demonetization, the wallet had around 35 million users. The company has seen 400 percent of growth in transactions since the demonetization.

MobiKwik wallet has 43 lakh users from Gujarat itself. The company has recently launched the Hindi version of its app and now it has added Gujarati to the list too. The Gujarati version MobiKwik LITE wallet is lighter than the original and is 700KB in size. It will be easier for users to download and run the app with standard mobile internet connections.

“Majority of Indians are not fluent in English and prefer to converse in their local languages. Given this fact, we announced the launch of MobiKwik app in regional languages. We had launched Hindi last month and Gujarati is the second languages addition to the app,” said Upasana Taku.

Gujarat is the third largest market for the company after Delhi and Mumbai-Pune circle. The company has also launched a “Cash Pick-Up” facility in Surat after Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru because of the high demand, company said.

Other wallets in India claims that they have more than 100 million users nationwide, well, Upasana Taku has something to say about that- “That is not possible, because not more than 10 per cent of India has been hit by mobile wallets. According to data for mobile wallet transactions released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Mobikwik is number two. Of the 10 per cent of India’s population hit by e-wallets, Mobikwik has a 45 per cent share. Other companies have run a sticker campaign wherein an agency is posting stickers for the company on every shop out there. We are looking to expand aggressively now. We are setting up an office here, employing people for the office as well as for the sales force on the street. We are investing about Rs 20 crore each month for acquiring new users, merchants and sales force for approaching the merchants.”
