YouTube to discontinue its online Video Editor and Photo slideshows features due to the limited usage. These features will retire on September 20 giving sufficient time to the users so that they could finalize any pending projects. Not all the features are retiring, creators will still be able to use some video enhancements feature.

YouTube will now focus more on building new tools and improving existing features. “We’ve seen a limited usage of these features, so we’re retiring them to focus our efforts on building new tools and improving on other existing features,” said Marissa, Community Manager (YouTube Help Forum).

Creators have given two months of time to complete their pending projects as from Sept 20, they won’t be able to access the Video Editor. However, the videos that were published with the Video Editor will remain unaffected.

As stated earlier, creators will be able to use some video Enhancements feature to enhance their uploaded videos with edits such as trimming, blurring, filters, end screens, cards, subtitles, sound effects, and quick fixes (stabilize, contrast, saturation, etc). You will also be able to use the Audio Library, apart from the Enhancements feature.

You can use Google Takeout to retrieve an original copy of your files or download your uploaded videos manually in 720p. Go to Creator Studio and then hit on Video Manager to open your uploaded videos. Next to each video, there is a drop down menu where you can find Download MP4 option, hit that to download it.

It won’t be difficult for you to find a third-party video editing software as there are many available, paid and free. If you have any questions regarding video editing software, you can always head to YouTube Help Forum or Creator Community.
