Amazon may soon start 3D scanning its customer’s body to recommend them clothing that fits them perfectly. The e-commerce company is working on this feature in order to minimize returns the company has to deal with on a daily basis.
A lot of people shop online for clothes as e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart offer them a vast variety of clothing at great prices and don’t forget sales. People buy them and if the size doesn’t fit, they return them for either exchange or refund. Majority of returns are due to fitting problems.
This buying and returning process often result in fraudulent activities ’cause I’ve heard from delivery companies that in some cases people return items after using them.
In order to tackle these problems, Amazon is reportedly working on a feature that will physically scan your body to suggest you clothes that fit. The online shopping company is inviting volunteers to its New York office in order to keep a track on their body shape and size over a 20-week period via 3D scanning.
According to a Digiting Trends report, to have a better understanding of the changing human body, these volunteers have to visit Amazon’s office twice a month. The e-commerce giant is offering these volunteers gift cards worth up to $250.
With the 3D scan feature, Amazon is not just aiming to reduce the number of returning due to the wrong size choice but also enhance the quality of its service and overall user experience to attract more and more customers.
Every e-commerce platform collects data from users to learn their preferences and show them a list of customized items that they would be interested in. Amazon, utilizing nowadays technology, may soon be a step ahead of its competitors and we could even witness other e-commerce platforms introducing a similar feature in near future.
