Xiaomi has partnered with Google to launch its first Android One device called Mi A1 for India and other markets globally. Xiaomi Mi A1 is company’s flagship dual camera smartphone that has been priced at Rs. 14,999 (approx $235) and will be available from September 12 via Flipkart and Mi Store. You can also buy it offline via authorized retail stores across the country. It comes in three color options-Black, Gold, and Rose Gold. The smartphone sports looks and packs specifications similar to its previously released device Mi 5X.
Google has resurrected its Android One initiative with Xiaomi Mi A1 which was launched three years ago aiming to provide affordable smartphones across the globe. Mi A1 is the most powerful Android One smartphone ever made, claimed both Xiaomi and Google. It’s a phone for the global market and will be made available in dozens of countries. Here’s the list of countries that are included- (Asia Pacific) Bangladesh, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, (Europe) Belarus, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, (Middle East & Africa) Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, UAE, Yemen, (Americas) Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Uraguay.
The all new Android One smartphone designed and manufactured by Xiaomi sports full metal body with 5.5-inch FHD (1080×1920 pixels) LTPS display and on top of its is the 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by 2.0GHz (max) Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC rated to deliver high performance and power efficiency paired with 650MHz Adreno 506 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It comes with 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 128GB via microSD card.
Xiaomi Mi A1 features dual cameras, 12MP 26mm wide angle lens with 1.5-micron pixels, f/2.2 aperture, 5-piece lens, and two-tone flash plus 12MP 50mm telephoto lens with 1.0-micron pixels, f/2.6 aperture, and 5-piece lens. Both the lenses work together to deliver bokeh effect. Other rear cameras features include 2X optical zoom, PDAF phase focus, low-light photography enhancements, HDR, Panorama, face recognition, and continuous shooting mode. The smartphone also packs 5MP selfie camera with 1.2-micron pixels, f/2.0 aperture, Beautify with 36 smart beauty profiles, selfie timer, and facial recognition. Mi A1 can shoot 4K video at 30fps and 720p slow-mo video at 120fps.
It’s a dual SIM hybrid (Nano+Nano OR Nano+microSD) smartphone that comes packed with 3080mAh battery and supports fast charging. The device runs on stock Android 7.1.2 Nougat, not Xiaomi’s own UI called MIUI. It comes integrated with Google’s voice assistant called Google Assistant and Google Play Protect, a Google service that scans apps on the device to keep your data protected. The company has promised Android 8.0 Oreo update and also guaranteed Android P update next year. Some Xiaomi apps like Mi Camera, Mi Remote, and Mi Store apps come pre-installed on the phone.
Xiaomi Mi A1 also packs 10V smart power amplifier paired with advanced Dirac HD Sound algorithm to deliver powerful, high-quality speaker audio output. Mi A1 sports two microphones integrated with a noise-reduction algorithm, located at the top and the bottom. Connectivity options on the smartphone include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS/ GLONASS/ BEIDOU, IR blaster, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm audio jack. Sensors on board Android One smartphone include- ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, infrared, gyroscope, hall sensor, and accelerometer apart from the fingerprint sensor placed on the rear.
