Apple launches powerful iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro models alongside Watch Series 5: Everything Apple announced

Apple took off wraps from new iPhone models at its special event held on September 10, 2019, at Steve Jobs Theatre, Cupertino. The line-up includes iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The all-new iPhones feature dual and triple rear camera setup and powered by industry’s most powerful chipset.

Apple also announced Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple Watch Series 5, and all-new iPads running iPadOS. Company’s iPhone line-up till next launch is as follows- iPhone 8 starting $449, iPhone XR from $599, iPhone 11 from $699, iPhone 11 Pro from $999, and iPhone 11 Pro Max with price starting from $1099.

Apple Arcade

Apple Arcade is Apple’s subscription-based online game streaming service that will allow users to play games both online and offline. The monthly family subscription (for six individuals) will cost you $4.99 and Rs. 99 in India and the company is offering 1-month free trial. So, if you are not satisfied and don’t wanna commit, you can opt-out of it before the trial period gets over otherwise you will be charged. Initially, the platform will offer more than 100 games in its catalog and more games will be added with time. The service will start rolling out September 19, 2019, onwards in more than 150 countries worldwide.

Apple TV+ (Apple TV Plus)

On the other hand, Apple TV+, which is Apple’s video streaming service like Netflix, offers family subscription at the same price as Arcade i.e. $4.99 monthly and Rs.99 for Indian customers. You can avail the service free for one year on purchasing new Apple gadgets. Apple showcased some of its Apple Originals including See starring Jason Momoa, The Morning Show starring Jennifer Aniston which is her second TV series after Friends, comedy series Dickinson starring Hailee Steinfeld, and For All Mankind which Ronald D Moore’s alt-history sci-fi series, and many more titles as Apple has invested $6 billion on Apple TV+ content.

All-new 7th Gen iPad with a larger 10.2-inch retina display

iPhone maker has revamped entire iPad line-up powered by Apple A10 Fusion chip that offers 2x faster performance and runs iPadOS which is exclusively made for iPad to offer enhanced, more interactive user experience. The OS offers a smartphone-like experience that fits larger screen which offers features like Side Over, Split View, and floating keyboard making multitasking a lot easier. The OS also offers redesigned home screen, desktop-class browsing with Safari, editing gestures, picture in picture, and drag and drop among others. It also works with the Apple Pencil.

The seventh-gen iPad is fitted with 8MP FaceTime HD camera and supports augmented reality (AR) features. It has got the home button that houses a fingerprint sensor which Apple calls TouchID. It also features a smart connector on its edge allowing you to connect with a keyboard accessory that also works as a protective case when not working. It offers up to 10-hour battery life. It will cost $329 and for students, it is $30 less i.e. $299. It’s up for pre-orders and will start shipping September 30, 2019.

Apple Watch Series 5

What’s new with the new watch series is the Always-on retina display meaning a display that won’t turn off and the brightness gets auto-adjusted to save battery when you lower your wrist and so the screen’s refresh rate (down to one refresh per second).

The price of Apple Watch Series 5 starts from $399 while the base cellular model will cost you $499. It will be offered in four models- aluminum (silver, gold, and space gray), ceramic, titanium (brushed metal and brushed space black), and stainless steel (gold, space black and polished) and will start shipping September 20 onwards.

The watch runs watchOS 6 and offers enhanced Siri integration, Fall detection, emergency international calling that lets you call emergency services in 150 countries (press and hold side button), a built-in compass paired with Apple’s compass app, new watch faces, enhanced GPS thanks to built-in compass, support for almost every workout, ECG app that detects heart abnormalities, women’s cycle tracking, and more. The watch supports Apple Pay and can last up to 18-hours, says Apple.

iPhones – iPhone 11

iPhone 11, Apple’s line-up’s base model is powered by industry’s fastest A13 Bionic chipset which the company claims to be the fastest CPU/GPU ever in a smartphone. Apple also claimed that its A12 chipset is still leading the smartphone industry in terms of performance.

The smartphone features a 6.1-inch liquid retina HD (1792×828 pixels) True Tone display with 1400:1 contrast ratio, 326ppi pixel density, 625 nits max brightness, and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating and runs on iOS 13 that offers features like dark mode, sign in using Apple ID, Haptic touch support, among others. Other features include spatial audio and support for Dolby Atmos.

iPhone 11 sports dual rear camera setup paired with 36 percent brighter true tone flash and supports next-gen smart HDR. The setup consists of a 12MP wide camera with f/1.8 6-element lens, optical image stabilization, and 100 percent focus pixels + 12MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.4 5-element lens offering a 120-degree field of view. You can explore the camera capabilities using redesigned camera app which allows you to switch between cameras or perform 2x optical zoom, up to 5x digital zoom, portrait lighting with six effects, portrait mode with depth control, enhance photos with the auto-adjust feature, turn on/off night mode, and more. With the new iPhone, you can not just edit photos but videos. Apple claims that new iPhone models including iPhone 11 have the highest quality video capturing capabilities allowing you to capture 4K videos at 60fps with extended dynamic range, 1080p slo-mo videos at 120fps or 240fps, time-lapse video with stabilization and supports 2x optical zoom out and up to 3x digital zoom, audio zoom, cinematic video stabilization, and optical image stabilization for video (wide lens). You can take 8MP still photos while recording 4K videos. Apple showed a video clip shot completely using iPhone 11 to prove its words. Another feature called QuickTake lets you shoot quick videos by pressing and holding the capture button without the need of switching to video mode.

On the front under the notch is the 12MP TrueDepth camera with f/2.2 aperture lens and supports portrait mode with advanced bokeh and depth control, portrait lighting with six effects (Natural, Studio, Contour, Stage, Stage Mono, High-Key Mono), Animoji and Memoji, next-gen smart HDR, auto image stabilization, cinematic video stabilization, 4K video recording at 24fps, 30fps, or 60fps, extended dynamic range for video at 30fps, 1080p slo-mo selfie video recording at 120fps, and retina flash. The front cam also supports enhanced FaceID.

iPhone 11 runs 1 hour more than iPhone XR on a single charge, says Apple. You can expect full-day battery life on normal use. The phone is IP68 rated for water (2 meters for up to 30 minutes), spill, and dust resistance.

iPhone 11 is scheduled to go up for pre-orders on September 13, 2019, in the United States and 30 other countries worldwide. It will start shipping September 20 onwards and in India September 27 onwards. The smartphone will be available to buy in six colors- Purple, Black, Yellow, White, Red, and Green. The base model with 64GB storage has bee priced at $699 and in India, it will retail at Rs. 64,900. The 256GB and 512GB storage variants will cost you $749 and $849, respectively.

iPhone 11 Pro/ iPhone 11 Pro Max

iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max is powered by the same Apple A13 Bionic chip which is based on 7nm architecture and capable of 1 trillion operations per second. The chip comprises of 8.5 billion transistors, machine learning accelerators, CPU (2 performance cores and 4 efficiency cores), GPU (metal optimized four cores), 8-core Neural Engine, and more firepower.

Just like iPhone 11, both the models feature toughest glass in a smartphone, claims Apple and is IP68 rated for water (up to 4 meters for 30 minutes), spill, and dust resistance. The Pro models support fast charging as well as wireless charging. Apple has included 18W fast charging adapter in the box that fuels up the phone up to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.

iPhone 11 Pro sports 5.8-inch while iPhone 11 Pro Max sports 6.5-inch super retina XDR OLED HDR true tone display with 2436×1125 pixels resolution, 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, haptic touch, 800 nits max brightness, and fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.

The iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max features triple 12MP wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto rear cameras designed and developed for pro photographers, says Apple. As mentioned, the setup consists of a 12MP wide camera with f/1.8 six-element lens, dual optical image stabilization, 100 percent focus pixels + 12MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.4 five-element lens, 120-degree field of view + 12MP telephoto camera with f/2.0 six-element lens, and dual optical image stabilization, and captures 40 percent more light. The setup comes paired with 36 percent brighter true tone flash with slow sync and supports 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out, digital zoom up to 10x, portrait mode with advanced bokeh and depth control, portrait lighting with six effects (Natural, Studio, Contour, Stage, Stage Mono, High-Key Mono), Panorama (up to 63MP), Night mode that uses adaptive bracketing for better photos, auto adjustments, nextgen smart HDR for photos, advanced red-eye correction, burst mode, and auto image stabilization. All three cameras support 4K video recording at 60fps. Other features include 1080p slo-mo video recording at 120fps or 240fps, time-lapse video with stabilization and supports 2x optical zoom out and up to 3x digital zoom, audio zoom, cinematic video stabilization, and optical image stabilization for video (wide and telephoto lens). You can take 8MP still photos while recording 4K videos. Just like iPhone 11, the Pro model also supports powerful video editing tools.

The Pro model also supports Deep Fusion tech that uses machine learning to take eight short exposure shots before you even hit the shutter button and after you’ve hit the shutter button, it captures one long exposure shot. The system then uses the neural network, thanks to A13’s 8-core neural engine, to analyze and combine the details captured into one detailed, low-noise photo.

The next-gen smart HDR uses advanced algorithms and leverages machine learning to automatically fine-tune details in both the subject and the background.

The front camera is the same as the iPhone 11.

iPhone 11 Pro can last up to 4 hours more than the iPhone XS while the iPhone 11 Pro Max delivers 5 hours more battery life than iPhone XS Max.

The pre-order for iPhone 11 Pro models begin September 13th in the first batch of countries while shipping will start September 20 onwards. In India, the phones will start shipping September 27 onwards. The US-based tech giant is offering the Pro models in four color options- Midnight Green, Space Gray, Silver, and Gold. The 64GB variant of iPhone 11 Pro features a price tag of $999, the 256GB model will cost you $1,149, and the top Pro model with 512GB storage has been priced at $1,349. On the other hand, iPhone 11 Pro Max starts at $1,099 for the 64GB model while the 256GB and 512GB models will retail at $1,249 and $1,449, respectively. iPhone 11 Pro price in India starts at Rs. 99,900 while the Max model will retail starting at 1,09,900.
