Vivo has finally launched world’s first ever smartphone “Vivo X20 Plus UD” featuring Synaptics In-Display fingerprint sensor. The smartphone was first unveiled at CES 2018 and now the same has been launched in China. The fingerprint sensor hidden under the AMOLED display is the output of partnership between Vivo and Synaptics.

The smartphone has been priced at CNY 3,598 (roughly Rs. 36,000 or $565) and is up for buying via Vivo’s official online store in Black color option with golden frame. There are no words on smartphone’s availability in other global markets as of now but if anything turns up, we are here to update you.

You may have used apps faking on-screen fingerprint sensor to fool your friends and family but now, you don’t have to do that anymore. Synaptics in partnership with Vivo has finally made it possible and embedded its Clear ID 9500 in-display fingerprint sensor into the Vivo X20 Plus UD. You can now put your finger on the screen and it will recognize you and unlock the device just like the fingerprint sensor you are currently using on your smartphone. Tech Geeks tested the sensor and described it as “fast and simple.”

The in-display fingerprint sensor is as fast and secured as the existing one. It can unlock the device in few milliseconds and work under layers up to 1.5mm thick. You can protect the screen with tempered glass and the sensor will still work and it also doesn’t matter if your finger is wet, dry, or cold. Synaptics will produce 70 million units of its in-display fingerprint sensor this year.

Coming on to the specifications, Vivo X20 Plus UD sports 6.43-inch FHD+ (2160×1080 pixels) AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core (four high-performance Kyro cores at 2.2GHz and four Kyro cores at 1.8GHz) 660 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. It comes with 128GBof internal storage which can be expanded further up to 256GB via MicroSD card.

The smartphone features dual rear camera setup surrounded by a golden rim. The setup consists of one 12MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and one 5MP secondary sensor paired with LED flash. On the front side, it sports 12MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.

You can also unlock the device using face recognition method, all you have to do is put your face in front of the device’s screen. Vivo X20 Plus UD runs Funtouch OS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat and packs 3905mAh large battery like its predecessor Vivo X20 Plus. The smartphone measures 165.2×80.02×7.35mm and weigh 183.1 grams.

It’s a dual SIM smartphone with hybrid configuration meaning Nano SIM + Nano SIM or Nano SIM + MicroSD card. Connectivity options onboard X20 Plus UD include 4G LTE, dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, USB OTG, micro USB 2.0 port, and 3.5mm audio jack. Sensors on the smartphone include proximity, accelerometer, ambient light, gyroscope, and magnetometer.

As we mentioned above, Vivo X20 Plus UD is the successor to company’s X20 Plus smartphone launched last year in September that featured almost same specifications but with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
