Sony has added another variant to its Xperia XA2 smartphones, successor to Xperia XA1, named Sony Xperia XA2 Plus. The other two variants were launched at CES 2018 called Sony Xperia XA2 and Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra. Xperia XA2 Plus will be made available in Silver, Black, Gold, and Green color options sometime in August. The exact date and pricing details have not yet been surfaced.

It’s just another Xperia smartphone and nothing extraordinary, it features the same rear camera as Xperia XA2 and Xperia XA2 Ultra and same front camera as Xperia XA2. The smartphone also shares same Snapdragon SoC as the other two but it is expected to come paired with up to 6GB of RAM.

Let’s discuss its screen and design first, Sony Xperia XA2 Plus sports 6-inch FHD+ (2160×1080 pixels) IPS LCD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and on top protecting the display is the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Its bezels are narrower than other two variants and sports anodized aluminum sides, a diamond-cut finish on the top and bottom, and has been given metallic finishing on the rear.

Coming to the specifications, the smartphone packs a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon octa-core 630 SoC paired with Adreno 508 GPU and 4GB/6GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB/64GB of internal storage expandable up to 400GB via microSD card.

Camera department includes 23MP Exmor RS rear camera sensor with 1/2.3-inch pixel size, wide-angle lens, f/2.0 aperture, hybrid autofocus, LED flash and supports 4K video recording, slow-motion video recording at 120fps, and Sony’s SteadyShot functionality (for blur-free footage). On the front, the smartphone sports 8MP 1/4-inch Exmor R 120-degree wide-angle selfie sensor with f/2.4 aperture.

Xperia XA2 Plus supports sound enhancing technologies such SmartAmp, DSEE HX, Hi-Res Audio, and LDAC and runs on Android 8.0 Oreo. DSEE HX upscales compressed or lossy MP33 or AACs to near high-resolution sound quality while LDAC enables streaming of High-Resolution audio content over a wireless connection such as Bluetooth. The fingerprint sensor on the smartphone sits on the back panel.

It’s a single SIM or hybrid dual-SIM smartphone that packs 3580mAh battery and supports Sony’s Smart Stamina Mode, Qnovo Adaptive Charging which keeps the battery healthy and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. Connectivity options onboard both smartphones include 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth v5.0, FM Radio, NFC, GPS/A-GPS, and USB Type-C port. Sensors on the smartphones include proximity, accelerometer, ambient light, magnetometer, and gyroscope.
