Sony Xperia XZ2, Xperia XZ2 Compact supports 4K HDR recording

Sony launched its flagship models called Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact at this year’s Mobile World Congress. The highlight of the smartphones is the new and advanced company’s Motion Eye camera system that supports 4K HDR video recording.

Sony has not detailed the price and availability of the smartphones, however, you can expect them to go on sale sometime in March. We can’t tell you its price in India or in the United States but we do know its German Price and according to it, Xperia XZ2 has been priced at €800 (roughly $980 or Rs. 63,750) and Xperia XZ2 Compact at €600 (roughly $735 or Rs. 47,800).  The company has listed the Xperia XZ2 model on Sony India website with the label “Coming Soon.”

Both Sony Xperia XZ2 models feature company’s proprietary advanced Motion Eye camera technology that lets you shoot stunning photos with every single detail. It also supports 4K HDR video recording that offers incredible contrast, detail and true to life color. The camera system also supports super slow-motion recording at 960fps and standard 120fps in both HD and FHD quality whereas Samsung Galaxy S9 offers it just in HD. There is also a Predictive Capture feature that automatically detects motion or a smile and starts capturing photos before you press the shutter button so that you don’t miss any important moment. Autofocus burst feature, on the other hand, lets you capture super-sharp motion shots by tracking and capturing sequences of moving objects in sharp focus.

Sony’s new smartphone allows you to capture the world in 3D, yes you heard that right. It comes with company’s 3D Creator that lets users create 3D avatars. All you have to do is to pick an object and scan it and when the procedure is done, you can share the result with your friends on social media or get it printed. Users can also scan there face to create their own 3D avatars. Share your 3D creation on Facebook and your friends can unveil details by rotating the object. It also comes with features like AR-Object and AR-Avatar allowing users to bring their 3D scans into the Augmented Reality world to see how they look in different situations.

Sony Xperia XZ2 sports Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides- front and back and supports wireless charging while the Xperia XZ2 Compact sports Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front protecting the display and the back is made of plastic and doesn’t support wireless charging. Sony has placed the fingerprint sensor on the rear panel below the camera module, unlike its previous models. Both smartphones feature stereo speakers for fully immersive audio experience backed by sound enhancing technologies such as High-Resolution Audio, LDAC, and DSEE HX which works to make even compressed files sound better. While LDAC Bluetooth technology enhances sound quality when the device is connected to wireless speakers or headphones. Both devices come with an IP65/68 rating for water and dust resistance making the phones more durable.

Sony Xperia XZ2 sports 5.7-inch FHD+ (1080×2160 pixels) 18:9 HDR Triluminos display with X-reality engine while the Xperia XZ2 Compact sports 5.0-inch FHD+ (1080×2160 pixels) 18:9 HDR Triluminos display with company’s X-reality display engine. Both devices are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core (4×2.7 GHz Kryo 385 Gold & 4×1.7 GHz Kryo 385 Silver) SoC paired with Adreno 630 GPU and 4GB of RAM and packs 64GB UFS internal storage expandable up to 400GB via MicroSD card. Both Sony smartphones run on Android 8.0 Oreo.

Both models pack 19MP Motion Eye camera with 1/ 2.3” Exmor RS for the mobile memory-stacked sensor, 25mm Sony’s G Lens f/2.0, 960 fps Super slow motion video (FHD/HD), 4K HDR recording, 8x digital zoom, Predictive Capture, Autofocus burst, SteadyShot (5-axis stabilization), and LED flash. On the front side, both devices sport 5MP selfie camera with 23mm wide-angle lens f/2.2, 1/5″ Exmor RS for mobile sensor, and SteadyShot technology.

Both Sony Xperia models will be made available in single and dual-SIM (hybrid, Nano SIM) options depending on regions. Sony Xperia XZ2 packs 3180mAh battery while the compact variant packs 2870mAh battery and supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology. Connectivity options onboard Sony smartphones include LTE (4G) Cat18, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS/ GLONASS, NFC, and USB 3.1 Type-C port. Sensors on the smartphones include proximity, accelerometer, ambient light, magnetometer, barometer, and gyroscope. Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact will be made available in Black, White Silver, Moss Green, and Coral Pink color options while the Xperia XZ2 model will be offered in Liquid Black, Liquid Silver, Deep Green, and Ash Pink colors.
