Coolpad has launched Cool 2 smartphone in its home market in partnership with debt-ridden LeEco. It’s a product of their joint venture named Cool, a brand that launched Cool 1 in 2016. Cool 2 is a successor to Cool 1 with some cool features like splash resistance, face unlocking, and 18:9 display ratio.
Well, the Cool brand is jointly owned by LeEco and Coolpad but it is still not clear what part LeEco played in the launch of Cool 2 smartphone following its financial problems. Coming to the topic, the company hasn’t revealed its pricing and availability details yet but it will very soon hit China’s market. The smartphone, like Cool 1, may also be launched in other global markets like India.
Cool 1 was launched in two storage configurations- 3GB/ 32GB and 4GB/ 32GB priced at CNY 1,099 and CNY 1,499 respectively. Cool 2, being a budget smartphone, is expected to be priced comparatively lower than its predecessor. As per the specifications, the smartphone sports 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) LCD display with 18:9 display ratio and top of it, there is 2.5D glass. Coolpad Cool 2 is powered by a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core (4 Cortex-A53 @ 1.5 GHz & 4 Cortex-A53 @ 1.0 GHz) chipset paired with Mali-T860 MP2 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It comes with 64GB of internal storage expandable further up to 128GB via microSD card.
Camera department includes 13MP (main shooter) + 0.3MP rear dual camera setup paired with LED flash while on the front side, it features 8MP selfie camera. It runs on Android 7.0 Nougat-based custom UI called EUI. The device is rated IPX4 for splash resistant and sports traditional design which specifically means no notches or bezel-less display. There’s a fingerprint sensor placed on the rear panel for quick unlocking.
It’s a dual SIM (Nano) smartphone that comes packed with 3200mAh non-removable battery. Connectivity options onboard Coolpad Cool 1 include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and micro-USB port. Sensors on the smartphone include proximity, accelerometer, and magnetometer.
