Xiaomi has launched a new and first Play-series smartphone called Mi Play in its home country featuring water droplet display notch housing the front camera. The back panel sports gradient finish giving it a glassy look.
The smartphone has been launched in China with no words on its global availability as of now and is priced as follows- CNY 1,099 for the 4GB/64GB storage variant, CNY 1,299 for the 6GB/64GB RAM/internal storage variant and the top variant with 6GB/ 128GB storage configuration has been priced at CNY 1,599. The 4GB RAM variant is available to buy in the country while the 6GB RAM variants will soon be up for grabs. Mi Play comes in Black, Dream Blue and Twilight color options with gradient finish.
Xiaomi has bundled 10GB of free data per month for 1 year which can be claimed after buying the handset, available to buy both online and offline at authorized retail stores across the country
Let’s come to the specifications, Mi Play sports 5.84-inch FHD+ (1080X2280 pixels) IPS LCD display with 19:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a 2.3GHz MediaTek Helio P35 octa-core SoC paired with IMG GE8320 and your choice of LPDDR4x RAM i.e. 4GB/6GB. It is being offered in two internal storage options as mentioned above (64GB and 128GB) expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.
Xiaomi has placed AI-powered dual camera setup on the rear consisting of a 12MP primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture & 2MP secondary depth sensor, both accompanied by an LED flash. The setup offers PDAF (phase detection autofocus), EIS (electronic image stabilization) which compensates for device shake while capturing, portrait mode, continuous shooting mode, and street shooting mode. On the front, the smartphone sports 8MP selfie sensor with face recognition, background blur, and more.
It comes with dual SIM hybrid tray that accepts two Nano SIMs or Nano + microSD. The smartphone runs MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1 Oreo and comes pre-loaded with Xiaomi’s own voice assistant. The device packs 3,000mAh battery and measures 147.76×71.89×7.8mm and weighs 150g. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS/ GLONASS/ BDS, USB OTG, micro USB 2.0 port, and 3.5mm audio jack. Sensors on the smartphone include proximity, accelerometer, ambient light, gyroscope, and magnetometer. The fingerprint sensor comes mounted on the rear panel.
