Oppo launches F5’s younger version “Oppo F5 Youth”

Oppo has launched downgraded version of its F5 smartphone called Oppo F5 Youth which the company unveiled when it launched its premium smartphone Oppo F5 in India earlier this month. It sports same display as F5 but comes packed with downgraded specifications making it a mid-range smartphone.

Oppo has made the newly launched device available in the Philippines at a price of PHP 13,990 (approx Rs. 17,800 or $276). The company is offering Oppo F5 Youth in two color options- Black and Gold. There is no word on when the company is planning to launch it in other global markets as of now.

Coming on to the specifications, Oppo F5 Youth sports 6.0-inch FHD+ (2160×1080 pixels) LTPS TFT display with 18:9 aspect ratio that comes protected with Corning Gorilla Glass. It is powered by a 2.5GHz MediaTek MT6763T octa-core SoC paired with ARM Mali G71 MP2 770 MHz GPU and 3GB of RAM. It comes with 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 256GB via microSD card.


It features 13MP rear autofocus camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), panorama, HDR, face detection, and LED flash. The rear camera also comes with Expert Mode and Ultra HD Mode which when selected sets the parameter automatically to capture a perfect picture for you. On the front side, the smartphone packs 16MP selfie camera with ultra-sensitive f/2.0 aperture and Oppo’s screen flash. The front camera is programmed to perform well in low-light conditions and is paired with AI-powered facial feature optimization technology that accentuates your facial landmarks and enhances the symmetry of your facial features like eyes, nose, cheekbones, and jawline using more than 200 positioning spots. Oppo F5 Youth is also capable of producing bokeh effect.

The device runs on ColorOS 3.2 based on Android 7.1 Nougat and packs features like O-Share which is claimed to be faster in transferring files than Bluetooth but works only with Oppo phones. Other features include split screen mode that lets you use two apps simultaneously, facial unlock which lets you unlock your phone using your face, and eye protection mode which protects your eyes when it gets darker. There is also a fingerprint scanner located on the back side of the smartphone.

It’s a dual SIM smartphone with triple slot tray that accepts two Nano SIMs and one microSD card and comes packed with 3200mAh battery. Connectivity options on board Oppo F5 include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro USB port with support for USB OTG. Sensors on the smartphone include proximity, accelerometer, ambient light, and magnetometer.
